Gang of Four. Outside the Trains Don’t Run On Time

He’s become nostalgic
Wants to own tomorrow
Discipline, is his passion
Now, he says there’s none

Outside the trains don’t run on time

He believes it’s no coincidence
He thinks sunblock will track him down

Home, it’s no castle
He wants his wife to run, and fetch
Order, he’s obsessed with order, order

Discipline, is his passion
Now, he says there’s none

Order, his obsession
Order, his obsession
Now, he says there’s none

Outside the trains don’t run on time

He believes it’s no coincidence
He thinks sunblock will track him down

Home, it’s no castle
He wants his wife, to run, and fetch
Order

The trains don’t run on time

Nostalgia
Discipline
Is his passion
Now, he says there’s none

Outside the trains don’t run on time

Happy Monday.

Good one, Universe! A few days ago, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was asked if she was concerned about the long-term status of the dollar. Before she could answer, the treasury sign fell off the podium and rolled across the floor. Touché.

Lead: War in The Middle East

Israel striking Lebanon credit: afp

The United Nations will meet today to discuss Israel’s attack on Iran, which happened on Saturday.

The Israeli Air Force says that it “targeted strategic military sites — specifically drone and ballistic missile manufacturing and launch sites, as well as air defense batteries.”

Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Tehran doesn’t want war, but will that Iran will respond ‘appropriately’ to Israel’s attack.

Israel ramped up attacks in the Lebanese city of Tyre on Monday. Multiple buildings were hit and the Lebanese Health Ministry said “at least seven people killed and 17 wounded.”

Egypt has proposed a 48-hour ceasefire followed by 10 days of peace talks with more prisoner exchanges between Israel and Hamas. Al Jazeera reports that Israel “has killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the northern areas of the Strip in less than a month… [and] at least 50 people, including five journalists, since Sunday.”

Trump Rally Breaks Liberal New York

credit: cbs

Former President Trump has pledged a new tax cut for “family caregivers who take care of a parent or a loved one.” This would function like a child tax credit and in the words of the President, “it’s about time that they were recognized.”

This was said at a massive rally in Madison Square Garden in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The crowd was massive and the liberal media freaked out by the very notion, likening it to a “pro-Nazi rally” in 1939 before Trump had even spoken.

One speaker, a comedian, has been spotlit for a joke about Puerto Rico as a floating island of garbage. Democrats have capitalized on this to show how Republicans feel about Puerto Ricans. But Puerto Rico does have a garbage problem that North America has failed to solve. The speaker said nothing of Puerto Ricans themselves. It wasn’t a great joke by any stretch. I myself did not at all like the sticks-and-stones Palestinians/Jews joke at all but I did actually laugh when he said that “Travis Kelce might be the next OJ Simpson.” (Note: I do not want anything bad to happen to Taylor Swift other than for her to stop making victim baiting music.)

A Trump spokesperson said that “This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”

Politicians who truly care about Puerto Ricans might focus on how Puerto Ricans cannot vote in the Presidential election unless they leave the island but they CAN be drafted for war that the President that they do not elect involves them in.

Canada’s Assisted Suicide Program Backfires

credit: getty

Who didn’t see this coming? The group that worked to legalize assisted dying in Canada now admits that the program has been “abused” and that doctors have been coercing people into dying.

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) has been legal in Canada since 2017. In 2021, the program was expanded to allow people with disabilities to use it and in 2027, it is expected to expand again to allow minors and people “mental health conditions” to use it too. Malthusian much?

The Telegraph reports that “members of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA), the group that spearheaded efforts to legalise assisted dying, have privately raised fears the practice is being “abused.” Further:

“It comes as data revealed by The Telegraph last week showed those on lower incomes who were offered the scheme were more likely to opt for it.

In leaked footage from a video call last year between BCCLA staff and a Canadian disabled patients’ group seen by The Telegraph, an employee at the campaigning group admitted “we are seeing MAiD being abused.

In one instance, they spoke of a patient who had been approved for assisted dying on the grounds of suffering from hearing loss.

On the same call, it was claimed some medical colleges in Canada had been advising against referring to MAiD on patients’ long-form death certificates, in a move which could distort the true numbers of people using it.”

Ukrainians No Longer Welcome in Germany

credit: rt

Ukrainians have been turned away from entering Germany. What happened to open arms to all Ukrainians?

According to a German newspaper, “German authorities have turned away 5,935 Ukrainians who were trying to illegally cross the country’s borders from January through September 2024.”

Germany was a top destination for Ukrainians when the conflict with Russia began in 2022 but Germany is also busy accepting migrants from the Middle East now too. They have accepted a reported total of “2.67 million and 1.93 million in 2022 and 2023 respectively.”

Is it any coincidence then that Germany’s economy is utter scheiße?

Last week, the International Monetary Fund cut its forecast and said that the German economy would stagnate this year even though they had previously predicted a 0.2% growth.

“At the moment we are not as successful as we should be and as we used to be in the European Union,” said German Finance Minister Christian Lindner.

As European analyst Ralph Shoellhammer put it: “It is not that Germans are getting lazier, but they are demoralized by a government that is perceived to support everyone except hard-working (or willing to do so) Germans.”

What’s Trending?

Timothée Chalamet is trending because he showed up at a Timothée Chalamet lookalike contest in New York City this weekend.

Shohei Ohtani was trending this weekend because the star player for the Los Angeles Dodgers was hurt in Game 2 on Saturday but the team’s manager says that he will play in Game 3 on Monday.

F1 is trending because the Mexico City Grand Prix was this weekend. Carlos Sainz won a victory for Ferrari.

News By The Numbers

30,000. That is how many people thought that they’d get a free Beyoncé concert at a Kamala Harris rally this weekend. They didn’t. Beyoncé said a few words and then left but people DID get a concert by Willie Nelson so that’s the same.

41 million. That is how many digits is in a newly-discovered prime number. That is 16 million digits longer than the previous prime number record. The new number was discovered by a new number of a group called the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS).

$22 million. That is how much the “Venom” movie made in its opening day at the box office. It was expected to make at least $70 million.
